Twitter Games

So, I know I’m a bit late to this, but Spymaster filling up my tweet stream is getting really annoying… For full disclosure here, I have not played Spymaster. Maybe I’m in the minority on this:

http://playspymaster.com/

I recognize that Twitter is still a relatively new medium, and that things like Twitter games are going to catch on, but it really waters down Twitter’s utility as a communication and information sharing platform. Perhaps it’s time for Twitter to include more metadata with a tweet to better categorize them and direct their flow. For example, maybe a tweet could be categorized as a “game” tweet, and only other people playing that same game would receive it.

…Maybe I just don’t get it. Could someone please explain this whole phenomena to me? What do you think of it?

WHOA, new website!

My business partner and I recently decided to start accepting web development client work and consulting through our business, Done21. To reflect this change, we redesigned our website. Check it out!

Gary Vaynerchuk makes an EXCELLENT point about education in the video he posted today. I left a comment on his site, but I’ll repeat it here:

I REALLY like the point about education. I learn so much more doing what I love and being a part of the world than I do in my college classes. Education is so broken right now.

For the past couple months, I’ve been saying that “the next Gary Vee” will be an educator. A teacher out in the world that is tired of the politics and takes education reform into their own hands.

Gary, you’re an AMAZING wine educator, but who knows their stuff better than a great teacher? What a crazy awesome video blog that would make!

Social media has VELOCITY

I wish there was a way for me to convey the velocity of web based communications and social media to businesses that don’t “get it” right now. Within minutes of a new Done21 blog post about Ryan Carson, there was a response from Ryan Carson in the comments.

This is how “business” works now. How can I make more people understand this?

HowTo: Fix the Spore Creature Creator ‘freezing’ problem…

Back by popular demand, my post about how to fix Spore video issues. Crazy how this is my most popular post… Oh well. :)

Like many people, I recently bought the Spore Creature Creator, and let me first say, it’s AWESOME!

But also like many people around the web, I was having a lot of trouble with the Spore Creator Creator freezing on my Windows Vista 32-bit laptop, powered by a GeForce Go 7800. Every time I would try to look at a menu, or the screen would refresh, or any time I would try to save a creature, the game would freeze. The only way to snap out of it was to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. This was annoying, to say the least. The solution was to install a 3rd party graphics driver. Here are the steps that worked for me:

Note: This fix requires that you have an nVidia graphics card (as I cannot speak for ATI cards having this issue). Also keep in mind, these are 3rd party graphics drivers, so you are doing this is at YOUR OWN RISK! Ok, without further ado…

  • If you are running Windows Vista 32-bit, download the driver here:
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/ForceWare-175.80-Vista-(32-bit)-download-1938.html
  • If you’re using Winodws XP 32-bit, go here instead:
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/ForceWare-175.80-XP-(32-bit)-download-1937.html
  • Download the graphics driver for your operating system, and then unzip it to the desktop. This should create a folder called “Guru3d.com”.
  • Open up the “Guru3d.com” folder, open the folder called “Setup”, and then run the file called “setup.exe”

It should walk you through the process from there, and after your computer restarts, the Spore Creature Creator will probably work much better!

First!

Hey everyone,

I wasn’t keeping up with my old blog, mostly because the admin interface I made was awful. It was my first Ruby on Rails project, and probably should have never been put into production, but I put it out there anyway. Hopefully the Tumblr platform will allow me to keep up with this a little better. If you’re super interested in what I used to be doing just a few months ago, check out my Vimeo profile:

Now, I’d like some honest feedback (and don’t worry, you can’t hurt my feelings, secretly I’m a robot… shh!):
What do you think of this site’s design?

Hi, I'm Nick!

I'm the co-founder and lead designer at Done21, a web software company. However, this website is just my personal blog. I like the Interwebs, art, and having fun!
