HowTo: Fix the Spore Creature Creator ‘freezing’ problem…

Back by popular demand, my post about how to fix Spore video issues. Crazy how this is my most popular post… Oh well. :)

Like many people, I recently bought the Spore Creature Creator, and let me first say, it’s AWESOME!

But also like many people around the web, I was having a lot of trouble with the Spore Creator Creator freezing on my Windows Vista 32-bit laptop, powered by a GeForce Go 7800. Every time I would try to look at a menu, or the screen would refresh, or any time I would try to save a creature, the game would freeze. The only way to snap out of it was to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. This was annoying, to say the least. The solution was to install a 3rd party graphics driver. Here are the steps that worked for me:

Note: This fix requires that you have an nVidia graphics card (as I cannot speak for ATI cards having this issue). Also keep in mind, these are 3rd party graphics drivers, so you are doing this is at YOUR OWN RISK! Ok, without further ado…

  • If you are running Windows Vista 32-bit, download the driver here:
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/ForceWare-175.80-Vista-(32-bit)-download-1938.html
  • If you’re using Winodws XP 32-bit, go here instead:
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/ForceWare-175.80-XP-(32-bit)-download-1937.html
  • Download the graphics driver for your operating system, and then unzip it to the desktop. This should create a folder called “Guru3d.com”.
  • Open up the “Guru3d.com” folder, open the folder called “Setup”, and then run the file called “setup.exe”

It should walk you through the process from there, and after your computer restarts, the Spore Creature Creator will probably work much better!
